Advice from Xerox recruiters on how to get your resume to the TOP.
In a competitive job market, here are three ways to ensure that your resume will get to the TOP (Tailored, Organized, Professional).
Make sure your resume and cover letter are tailored to the position by referencing your accomplishments and how they’re relevant to the job description. If you are applying for a sales position, be sure to include how your experience is relevant to the role by optimizing key words, skill traits and highlighting your selling points. Just like your suit is tailored to fit you, your resume should be tailored to fit the job.
Make sure that your resume is easy to read, organized and has good “flow”. Stay away from using “fluff”, fillers or personal references that make it look longer – stick with what’s relevant and keep it simple. A long resume doesn’t mean that it’s a good resume. Some experience is self-explanatory – no need to take up valuable real estate on your one page resume.
While it’s important for your resume to look professional. It’s also important that it’s representative of who you are. Know your audience when sharing your interests and think about how you are branding yourself. If you add your interests, skills and involvement within your community, it should be relevant to the position.
Lastly, before applying the TOP tips (Tailored, Organized, Professional) when searching for your new career, be sure to research the company’s corporate culture and core values and ask yourself if they align with your goals. This can also be included in your tailored cover letter to the company.
For example, our corporate culture at our Xerox Authorized Agencies reflects; Independence. Accountability. Opportunity. Growth. Learning.
